General Help
Telling it what data to process
The login generator can process data entered into the big box, or it can process an entire file.
-
Entering data directly
There are two ways to enter data directly.
- Typing directly into the box
You can enter a domain, user id and password directly into the box, with spaces between them.
For example, try typing
linuxmail winelight cynthia
and then press the magic button.
You can also use this format:
winelight@zwallet.com cynthia
and if no domain is specified, yahoo is assumed:
username password
Trying a list of passwords on one account
You can also use these formats:
winelight@zwallet.com
linuxmail winelight
and then enter a list of passwords to try on all these accounts in the other box.
For passwords containing spaces
Various other formats are allowed such as:
"linuxmail" "winelight" "cynthia"
in order to accommodate passwords containing spaces. In fact, you can use
pretty much any combination of single or double quotes, commas and/or spaces to
separate the domain, user id and password. Note that the domain
(for common hosts) can be abbreviated, eg "yahoo" rather than "mail.yahoo.com".
- Copy and paste from Excel
You can copy and paste a list of login details directly from Excel. For example,
click here to open / download an Excel file.
Mark all the data (all three columns), copy to the clipboard,
then go to the login generator, paste into the box and press the magic button.
You can also edit the data in the window if you see any obvious mistakes. If you realise you've messed things up,
simply click the revert button to restore the previous content. The clear button does what you'd expect.
-
Process an entire file
Note that the file format must be CSV (you can save an Excel spreadsheet in CSV format using File / Save As),
and the file is expected to have a header row (which is ignored) and a header column, which is also ignored.
There are three ways to process an entire file.
- Follow a link from another site
You can follow a link from another site if it is in this format:
- Upload from your own PC
If you want to try this, download and save this file.
- Specify the location of a file on the internet
If you want to try this, copy and paste http://www.scampatrol.org/tools/wl/example.csv into the relevant box.
- Process an Excel file from your own PC
For this to work (in IE) you must change your security settings:
Tools / Internet Options / Security / Custom Level... / Initialize And Script ActiveX Controls Not Marked As Safe / set to "Prompt"
Understanding the results
Each entry in the original file will result in a row of items.
- Reference number
This is just for your convenience.
- OK/Action
These are just for your convenience, to mark your progress through the page
and to remember which accounts required further action on your part.
- User ID
This is just the User ID and is put here for your reference. You may need to copy it and paste it into
the webmail site for some operations.
You will get one of a number of things here
- unknown
This means we do not know the host.
- An image button
This should take you straight to the site in question (in a new window) and log you in automatically.
Be sure to log out and close the window when you have finished.
- A regular link
This should take you to the webmail host (in a new window). You will have to come back
to copy the user ID, switch to the host to paste it in, then repeat for the password.
Be sure to log out and close the window when you have finished.
- A regular button
If you are using IE6 then this button will take you to the webmail host
and automatically copy the user ID to the clipboard, so you can paste it straight into the appropriate place.
Come back for the password.
Be sure to log out and close the window when you have finished.
If it takes you to the wrong domain (you can't find anywhere to log on), or the domain doesn't exist,
then PM all the details to winelight at Eater and move on.
- Password
A button (IE only) will copy the password to the clipboard: otherwise,
you will see the password here for you to select (double-click) and then copy,
so you can switch to the webmail host and paste it in.
- Extra
For some hosts, there will be a link here which will take you to a delete account page (in a new window).
In IE6, for Yahoo, it is a button that automatically copies the password to the clipboard
(you will need to confirm the password to delete the account).
Note that for most hosts, the account deleted is the currently logged on account.
If you find
a way to delete, close or cancel an account for which a link is not automatically shown,
please PM winelight at Eater with the details.
Sometimes a link will appear here to do something else that is difficult to find (eg, change password).
- Copy button (IE only)
This copies the domain, user ID and password to the clipboard, in case you
need to store the details in a word processor or elsewhere for future reference or attention.
- Help link
If there is any help specific to the webmail host you will see a link here.
